Grafham Grange Senior Football Team welcomed Wandle Valley for the first fixture of 2019. Wandle arrived a little later than expected and with reduced numbers, so the game was seven- a-side on the 3G.
Grafham started the game well and but for a number of saves from the Wandle Valley keeper we would have been two goals up. Wandle then scored with a belter in the bottom corner. They then made it 2-0 with a smart move down the left hand side. The Grafham players stayed strong and built up some great passing combinations, with Leo, Tyler and Dan all going close. Defensively Ryan in goal, Rhys and Dan were solid at the back. Jack in centre midfield was getting many touches of the ball and creating chances for our forwards.
The second half started with Grafham still 2- 0 down Tyler, Lewis, and Samuel came on to cheers from the crowd. Grafham continued to create chances but the introduction to the pitch of Thomas had an immediate impact with him putting in a fantastic cross that the Wandle defender could only head into his own goal to make it 2-1. Five minutes later Grafham piled on the pressure and a shot ricochet three or four times before a thunderous shot from man of the match Thomas found the back of the net. The last five minutes was end to end but with no further goals the game finished 2- 2. An all-round positive experience.
Well done all our players and supporters that made it such a success.
