The plans were set in place in January for a Comic Relief football festival involving staff and students from Grafham Grange and St Dominic’s School. We didn’t want a festival for just the elite so we decided to split into 6 teams with a mix of staff and students from both schools.
The league consisted of six of the giants of European football, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund Bayern Munich and Ajax. The games started thick and fast with both 6 a side pitches used at once, the games really flowed. It was great to see a number of players from both schools making their debuts in competitive games. The atmosphere around the pitches was very relaxed with the captains of each teams making sure everyone was involved, keepers were changed regularly and positional changes were often. The behaviour and attitude from all players was immaculate so the yellow and red cards were redundant for the day. The only disappointment was that we had to finish with no one really caring who had won. An excellent day and one that we will be repeating in the not too distant future. A big Thank You to the staff at St Dominic’s and Grafham Grange for their commitment and a massive well done to all the students for adapting to change and making new friends along the way.
